Sprinkler Design

Fire Safety Wales works alongside developers, architects, water companies, landlords and care providers. We liaise with your local authority building control department to ensure your Sprinkler System design is of the Highest Quality.

Covering Swansea, Llanelli, Carmarthen, Pembroke Dock, Pembroke, Ceredigion, Powys, Cardigan, Aberystwyth, Builth Wells, Llandovery, Newcastle Emlyn, Neath, Bridgend, Barry, Llantrisant, Pontypool, Merthyr, Brecon, Chepstow, Monmouth, Newport, Rhondda, Cardiff, and many other areas.

Designing a domestic or residential fire sprinkler system is more demanding than it first appears. Each sprinkler head must be positioned to ensure it protects the room correctly, as well as being sympathetic to the visual look of the ceiling.

Your sprinkler system has to be compliant to BS9251. For this, your finished installation would have been designed by our experienced fire designer, who would have taken into account many variables such as:

  • total pipe length
  • pipe diameter
  • routes taken
  • room sizes
  • water pressure/flow

Following your individual design, the final information is fed into our software program to ensure everything is compliant with the relevant standards. This process can take as little as a few hours to several days, depending on the size and complexity of the building.

On receipt of suitable drawings of the building to be protected, the design engineer will start by adding fire sprinkler heads in accordance with the requirements of BS9251 and manufacturers recommendations.

The sprinkler system pipework is then added to connect the fire sprinkler heads to the supply.

Normally the drawings supplied to us will include the lighting layout for the property. Our design engineers will, as far as possible, line up the sprinklers with the lighting plan. Any problematic areas will be discussed with the client and discuss a suitable solution that satisfies both the British Standard and the client.

Following commissioning the design engineer provides ‘as fitted’ drawings, which forms part of the Operations & Maintenance manual and/or users guide.
